Cases of visa exemption in Vietnam:

Overseas Vietnamese and foreigners being spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens or Vietnamese residing overseas shall be exempt from Vietnam tourist visa with the stay duration not exceeding 90 days, if meet the following conditions:

  • Foreign passports or papers substituting foreign passports are valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. In case the overseas Vietnamese does not have a passport, he / she must have a permanent residence permit issued by a foreign country which is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
  • Visa exemption certificates issued by competent Vietnamese authorities.

Persons staying for more than 90 days must apply for a visa in accordance with current regulations before or after entry into Vietnam.
Passengers who do not belong to the above visa exemption list need to apply for a visa when entering Vietnam.

There are 2 ways to apply for vietnam tourist visa:

1. Apply for visas at Vietnamese embassies abroad

Passengers can apply for a visa within 6 months prior to arrival in Vietnam by applying directly or by post at the Vietnamese embassies in the country where you live. Documents for visa application to enter Vietnam at the Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam abroad:

  • Passport of foreigner must be valid for at least 06 months;
  • Passports are not torn or blurred;
  • You must have an entry document issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam allowing you to enter and receive a visa at the Vietnamese embassy or consulate abroad (in the official letter, the name of the Vietnamese embassy or consulate abroad).

This official letter is granted by the Exit and Entry Management Department issued by one of the following organizations and individuals:
+ Relatives of foreigners in Vietnam;
+ A company or an organization in Vietnam guarantee for commercial purpose, work, market research...
+ A travel company will guarantee for the purpose of visiting Vietnam
Note: This entry must be faxed to the Vietnamese embassy / consulate abroad in the Ministry of Public Security.

What is the procedure for applying for a Vietnam tourist visa at the Embassy / Consulate?

  • Presentation of passport;
  • Presentation of the entry (printed copy on A4 size)
  • Fill in the form as instructed by the staff of the Embassy / Consulate of Vietnam
  • Payment of visa fee at the Embassy / Consulate in accordance with regulations, 01 month visa is 25 $ and 03 months is 50 $. (Payment is in Vietnam or USD)

2. Getting Vietnam tourist visa on arrival

If you are planning to arrive in Vietnam by AIR at Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, or Da Nang airport, a legitimate alternative to obtaining a full visa stamp from the Vietnamese Embassy in your own or another country is to opt for a very simple and cheaper, visa on arrival (VOA).
