How to get a visa to Vietnam for Philippines citizens

Visa is a must for travelers coming to Vietnam, however, Filipinos are an exception:

- If you stay in Vietnam less than 21 days, visa to Vietnam is NOT required

- If you stay in Vietnam for more than 21 days, visa to Vietnam is required

If you do need a Vietnam visa, what are your options?

There are a few options for getting a Vietnam visa. Here’s a quick sum-up of what they are:

  • From a Vietnam Embassy in your home country
  • Getting a Visa on Arrival from a company like visa-vietnam.org.vn (note: this is only available if you arrive by air)
  • Getting an e-Visa (this is very new – Feb 2017)

Below are the advantages, defects, and ease of each of these options.

Apply for Vietnam visa directly at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate

For those who want to get a Vietnam visa beforehand or want to travel to Vietnam by land or sea, Filipino can go to the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate nearest your location to apply for the visa.

The address of the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in the Philippines for your information:

Address: 670 Pablo Ocampo (formerly Vito Cruz) Malate, Manila, The PHILIPPINES

Telephone: (632) 521 6843

Fax: (632) 526 0472

Email: vnembph@yahoo.com

Source: Internet

Advantages:

  • You get a choice of 1 month or 3 months entry so you don’t have to worry about extending/overstaying
  • You can be 100% confident that when you turn up you have a recognized/valid visa

Defects:

  • It’s typically more expensive than a Visa on Arrival/eVisa.
  • Beware if you’re from a visa exempt country – there have been stories of the visa exemption stamp being applied on arrival, invalidating your visa and cutting your stay down to 15 days – point out your visa when you arrive.
  • You have to part with your passport for a while.
  • Beware embassy closure dates – Vietnam has different holidays e.g. Tet to work around.
  • This is by far the slowest way to get a visa: it can take several days and although expedited visas are available, the costs increase. That’s all in addition to the time it takes to get your passport there by post or the time taken to travel to the embassy in person.
  • It’s not going to work if you fly in a few days and have only just realized you need a visa!

In summary: this is a safe option if you have time and don’t mind paying more money.

Apply online for a Vietnam visa on arrival

Filipino passport holder can:

- Apply for Vietnam visa on arrival online from anywhere to receive visa Approval Letter. And the Vietnam visa will be picked up upon arrival at the Vietnam airports by showing up the printed out of the Approval Letter.

- By using our service, the Approval Letter will be sent via email within 1 or 2 working days (normal case), 4 working hours (urgent case) or even 30 minutes (emergency case) depending on which option the applicant chooses on our website after submitting an online application form.

This method was made to make the Filipino trip to Vietnam simpler and more economical. It is applicable only to those traveling by air to Vietnam. Vietnam visa on arrival is especially an advantage to those living far from the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in the Philippines.

By using this mode of getting Vietnam visa on arrival, the Filipino does not need to wait too long for processing to get a pre-approval letter issued by Vietnam Immigration Department, which acts as official permission of getting the visa upon arrival. We can help you to get Vietnam visa approval letter as quick as your options on our website visa-vietnam.org.vn.

Useful notes:

- Before applying online for a Vietnam Visa on arrival, the Filipino citizen ensures that the passport has at least 6-month-validity and left pages from travel date.

- Visa on arrival is only applicable for Filipinos traveling by air to Vietnam.

Advantages:

  • It’s cheaper than going via an embassy.
  • You have the same choice of single/multiple 1 month/3 month visas as you do at the embassy.
  • You can make the application sat in your pants in your bed i.e. it’s all online until you get to the airport
  • One of the quickest ways of getting a visa – your visa approval letter arrives within 2 working days though it can be quicker (mine was within 24 hours).
  • If you’re happy to pay more money (i.e. if you’re in a bind/at the airport), you can get your visa approval letter in 2 hours (though that speed will cost you an extra $50 on top of the usual service fee).
  • You don’t have to part with your passport.
  • You’re not tied to a location while you apply.

Defects:

  • It’s only available if you arrive by air.
  • You have to pay a processing fee to the agency
  • If you arrive on a busy day, it can take 30 minutes to an hour to get stamped at the airport. However, many visitors were done within 10 minutes.

Getting an e-visa

Since February 1st, 2017, the Government of Vietnam has implemented the e-Visa. The new online process simplifies the procedures to enter Vietnam by allowing travelers to apply directly online for a visa. Hence, there is no more need to apply for an “approval letter”, which require to queue, process and pay an additional stamp for “visa on arrival” once arrived in Vietnam.

The e-Visa is an electronic travel authorization from the Vietnam Government for up to 30 consecutive days, issued in PDF format. It is the equivalent to a visa, but no stamp or label is placed in the passport.

Source: Internet

Advantages:

  • You can enter Vietnam by air as well as sea and land (though check because there are still only designated points of entry).
  • You won’t have to queue for stamping on arrival.

Defects:

  • Only 40 countries are eligible for e-visa and of course, the Philippines is also one of those 40 countries.
  • You can only apply for 1-month single-entry visas.
  • The process takes 3 working days and there is no expedited option.
  • It’s very new so there are some reports of ‘on the ground’ officials not recognizing the e-visa so you could experience a hold-up in the early days.
  • The Vietnam Embassy still recommends visa on arrival as the main form of visa application – does this mean they’re still testing the efficacy of the e-visa?

You can apply for e-visa here.

Depending on your circumstances, choose a suitable visa. However, we recommend that you choose a Vietnam visa on arrival because it is safe, fast, economical and many options.
